Down on the farm 66 last month 6/24

Klemm L25C G-ACXE

We have fitted the old ASI and altimeter in the front cockpit but they were next to useless in the back and they still are! We are fitting two reconditioned units in the front and a new slip ball. The other day we took the Klemm to Deanland and did a photo shoot on the ground and in the air see below.

Prentice G-APPL

My daughter and I

We rented a truck to bring it home because the logistics of using a small trailer would have been difficult as we needed a loader both ends and many hands.

Tiger Moth DH82C 5084

5084 at Solent, I was last there in 1969 drag racing (HMS Daedalus)

We took the Tiger to the 80th D Day show at Solent airport as part of the dressing. It rained when we were over Fareham and we diverted to Goodwood for a few minutes and then carried on and got there with 3 minutes to spare!

Fairey Swordfish (String Bag)

String bag: we spoke to one of the crew and found out that there is a door directly above the torpedo in the floor. The gunner/bomb aimer climbs down from his gun emplacement, lays down on his stomach, opens the door and sets the depth on the torpedo, closes the door and aims the torpedo with the help of the pilot (note the triangular windows by the wing root) and releases it. Can you imagine the size of their ***** with wall to wall Ack Ack coming up at you? And you are flying at about 80mph!

Next month I will have pics and write up from my trip to 2 museums in Finland.

Tony Palmer

Fly-in at Chilsfold farm on Saturday June 22nd

The fly-in was a great success with lots of planes arriving and many people by road. Good food and lots of hospitality, meeting of old friends. Thank you Ian, Ann, Farry and Yvonne.
