Down on the farm 62 last month 2/24

Klemm L25C G-ACXE

We actually have a permit but not a chance to fly as the strip has flooded so many times in the last month.

We have been doing little jobs on the plane but nothing much to report.

Jim and I have been asked to do a Zoom presentation on the Klemm to the transport Trust on the 4th of March at 7 pm, there will be presentations also of a 1933 Dennis 30cwt Fire Engine – with escape ladder restoration by Nigel Bayes, also the McAlpine Hudswell Clark Steam Engine No 88 presented by Stephen Middleton.  Please contact me by e mail if you want to attend and I can send the link.

I am trying to put together the talk by the Border Force at Parham for next month’s meeting and will let everyone know ASAP.

June 8/9. 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. Solent Airport, Portsmouth; Request for participation

6th June 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of The D-day Landings – one of the most remarkable Allied wartime operations. In the lead up to the operations HMS Daedalus (RNAS Lee-on-Solent) became the base for a number of Spitfire and Seafire squadrons from both the FAA and RAF. The number of sorties in support of Operation Overlord and Neptune was 435 and this was the highest total achieved by any UK airfield on D-Day.

To mark this occasion, Solent Airport is holding an anniversary event over the weekend, Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June 2024. This will include an air display and static line up alongside the main event area of living history and re-enactment groups, field gun demonstration and lots of family entertainment and fun.

Your aircraft would create a great spectacle for the public and we would love to include your aircraft in our air or static display for all to view.

If this is an event that you would be able to support and if your aircraft is available could I kindly request you contact me and please pass on my details to any flying friends or relatives that would be interested.

Martyn Francis, Airport General Manager, Solent Airport, Daedalus Drive, Lee-on-the-Solent, Hampshire, PO13 9FZ. Tel 01329 824750 or 07779 447 964 airportmanager@solentairport.co.uk

Do you advertise cost sharing flights?

Not something I’m planning on doing, but if you are: The CAA has published its response to the consultation on ‘UK Cost Sharing Flights: Advertising’ that it carried out last year, and initially it looks like little change, at least so far….

Cost sharing flights may be advertised. The advertisement must be placed by the pilot intending to operate the flight and must include the start and end locations, the date when the pilot is available to conduct the flight, and any other information prescribed by the CAA.

CAA, Feedback updated 29 Feb 2024

However there is a further public consultation underway that may change this. It looks like an advertisement will need to contain full details of the pilot’s qualifications and experience. Also it must be clear that the flight is completely at the pilot’s discretion and the passenger is not a customer as they would be with a commercial charter.

The LAA Rally it ‘aint!

Came across this event by random happenstance. The French seem to have a different attitude to aviation. Details here: coupe-icare.org/GB_home.html

Last month’s mystery tool

Was identified as for replacing the blade links on a radio controlled helicopter!
