Pilot Medical Declaration (PMD) Phase 2 review

If you are flying on a PMD – or think you might do one day – you should contribute to this survey by the CAA. Key proposal so far: restrict the PMD to the at or less than 2000kg category, need to hold a full UK DVLA driving licence, biannual renewal from age 60, allowing treatment for psychiatric illness, oh… and charging you for it!

There are a number of other changes proposed. See the background paper here, and also the link to the survey: consultations.caa.co.uk/ga/pilot-medical-declaration-pmd-phase-2-review/ The survey closes 4th January 2024.

Klemm L25C G-ACXE

We are still waiting for the permit to fly from the LAA. The prop is back, looking too good to use!! We have been spending the non-flying time with tickling up the plane one of the main things has been trying to stop oil leaks!!

Vintage Aircraft Club annual dinner prize giving

Jim Copeman, Myself, Phil Trangmar and Tony Berryman travelled up to Sywell where we attended the annual dinner. Jim and I had been awarded the Desmond Penrose Silver Salver for the Vintage Aircraft of 2023 for the restoration of British Klemm G-ACXE which flew for the first time this year since 1939. We could not have done it without the help and assistance of Phil, who has been making bits etc. for the plane for more than 20 years and is now the LAA inspector (previously inspected by Peter Harrison, to be remembered!) and Tony Berryman our project test pilot, and do not forget the unsung wives of all concerned who let us play!!!

The prizes were awarded by Sir John Allison KCB CB, now the new president of the club.

Stop Press

Sad news is that Roy Newton died on 24.11.23. Mike Lodge will be writing an obituary which will be in next months newsletter.

December strut night: Xmas dinner Wednesday 6th December

Tony has booked a slot for us at the Old Tollgate Hotel in Bramber for the 6th of December at 7.30pm. We will be having the 2 course dinner which is priced at £27.95. Paid up members will have the first £20 paid for by the strut and they will have to pay the balance of £7.95 and if they take a partner they will have to pay the full amount i.e. £27.95, the reason is that we have used up the surplus that we had. In the December reminder email is a list those that are booked to come and their choices of food. Please check now!!!

Please bring something for the raffle and DON’T FORGET TO BRING ANY MONEY THAT YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY ON THE NIGHT IN CASH (THE CORRECT AMOUNT).
